Now is the time for the European Union to accept biotech crops as demand for food continues to rise, U.K. lawmaker George Freeman said at the Norfolk Farming Conference. Freeman urged for a renewed public debate on biotech foods, saying that it would be "criminally irresponsible" not to look at the potential of biotech crops. It would also be "madness" for U.K. to be left behind, considering that the agricultural-biotechnology market in the rest of the world is expanding 10% to 15% annually, Freeman said.
