The operating lives of France's nuclear plants will be extended beyond 40 years, French President Nicolas Sarkozy ruled. "The president decided to ask all the operators to be ready to extend the life of our reactors beyond 40 years," said French energy minister Eric Besson. Sarkozy's decision came after the French Court of Audit stated that such a move was France's only option for cost-effective energy.
