Regulations placed on beef exports by the European Union are harmful to Botswana, writes William G. Moseley, a geographer at Macalester College. The requirements -- that cattle used for beef production be traceable to fenced areas -- are likely to accelerate ecological damage, he writes. The EU should re-evaluate its requirements, and Botswana should look for other trading partners, he suggests.
