Franklin Park Zoo's male Masai giraffe Beau may have to undergo surgery for a urinary obstruction. Anesthesia poses a high risk for giraffes due to their long necks, and all 14 of the male giraffes that have had the same surgery in the U.S. have died. Beau, however, is no stranger to facing tough medical obstacles; the giraffe famously bounced back from wasting syndrome, an incurable metabolic disorder, in 2004.
