Some types of computer games can help children learn, writes high-school technology coordinator Aran Levasseur. He advocates for the use of epistemic games, in which students use role-playing to interact in a virtual world with real-life situations, such as trying a profession. "In playing games [students] are doing explicitly, openly and socially what as adults they will do tacitly, privately and personally," said scholar David Williamson Shaffer, author of "How Computer Games Help Children Learn."
