Education expert Diane Ravitch writes in this blog that the release of value-added ratings is demoralizing to teachers in New York City. In criticizing the release, she points out what she said are the flaws of value-added assessments, which she writes have been proven ineffective in accurately evaluating teachers' performances. The release, she writes, further disrespects teachers who already have become scapegoats. "Interesting that teaching is the only profession where job ratings, no matter how inaccurate, are published in the news media," Ravitch writes.
