In this interview, Diane Pratt-Heavner, spokeswoman for the School Nutrition Association, discussed the new federal school nutrition standards, as well as efforts schools are making to serve healthy food. She said schools are encouraging students to eat nutritious items, such as vegetables and whole grains, by using chef-inspired meals and farm-to-school initiatives. She also encouraged parents to review the school menu with their child and encourage healthy eating.
