Participants with at least three features associated with metabolic syndrome showed increased rates of messenger RNA and toll-like receptors 2 and 4, higher levels of an inflammation master switch in the nucleus and higher concentrations of inflammation-inducing cytokines in the blood, compared with the control group, a study found. The results suggest that suppressing TLR activity through weight loss, healthy lifestyle and medication may be effective in addressing diabetes and other conditions related to metabolic syndrome, researchers reported in Diabetes Care.
