Companies that rely on public cloud providers for critical functions should have a disaster-recovery plan in case of IT disruptions, Rob Livingstone writes. Risks include short-term service disruptions or even a full-scale shutdown of a vendor's systems. Unfortunately, it might not be possible to vet every aspect of a provider's operations to measure risks. For some companies, the answer might be to invest in a private cloud, which provides 100% control and access, Livingstone writes.
