A retrospective analysis of the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey showed that less than six hours or more than eight hours of sleep increased the risk of developing heart conditions. Adults who slept less were twice as likely to suffer a stroke or heart attack and at 1.6 times greater risk of congestive heart failure, while those who slept more than eight hours were twice as likely to experience angina and 1.1 times more likely to have coronary artery disease, researchers reported at an American College of Cardiology meeting.
