Google and Apple together held nearly 80% of the U.S. smartphone software market in the quarter ended January, according to comScore, which says Android's share grew 2.3 percentage points to 48.6% while Apple's iOS improved 1.4 points to 29.5%. Research In Motion's share continued to decline, falling almost 2 points to 15.2%. On the hardware side, Samsung Electronics widened its lead over LG Electronics slightly, but fourth-place Apple was the only smartphone-maker to gain market share as it closed in on Motorola Mobility.
