In most companies, workers win promotions for executing their existing duties successfully, not for coming up with disruptive new ideas, writes Braden Kelley. To spur creativity, bosses need to earmark a portion of their workers' time for R&D projects or outsource their innovation projects to separate skunkworks divisions, Kelley writes. "People must have time to execute new ideas," he adds.
