AT&T continued its tradition of hosting developer "hackathons" at this year's South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, staking $46,000 in cash and prizes in a competition that pitted individuals and teams of developers against each other and the clock. The carrier gave participants in its Mobile App Hackathon 24 hours to design an application that would help Chicago Bears player Lance Briggs communicate with his fans. "The developer community is driving the economy," AT&T marketing manager Ben Nelson says. "The hackathon is a chance to show what they're capable of."
