Australian firm Flinders Biomedical Enterprises has developed prototypes of its Intraheat device, which the company said can warm blood for transfusion in emergency situations without a power source. According to a company representative, an emergency worker or combat medic can pull a cord on the unit, which is disposable and portable, and spark a chemical reaction that heats the blood and other fluids while they go to the patient.
