California's Sacramento County officials and the Sacramento Area Sewer District have agreed to a $660,000 settlement over a lawsuit alleging "ongoing, regular, and repeated discharges of raw sewage" into local waters. The district and county must contribute mitigation fees to an environmental nonprofit and decrease the number of spills to five per 100 miles of sewer within five years, according to a consent decree that also involves the California Sportfishing Protection Alliance, which brought the lawsuit.
