State legislators in Colorado are considering increasing state oversight of online schools in response to concerns about student achievement. One proposal involves the creation of a new "Unit of Online Learning" office within the state Education Department. Some parents and students staged a rally last week in support of online education. "We're still having to prove this works, and this clearly works for thousands of students," said Lori Cooney, president of the Colorado Coalition of Cyberschool Families and the mother of two students who attend online schools.
