Researchers in Ireland found that colostrum from the first milking in cows in their fifth lactation has the highest immunoglobulin concentration and that immunoglobulins decreased at least 50% between the first and second milkings for all cows. Since calves depend on immunoglobulins from their mothers to provide immune protection, ingesting colostrum is vital to maintaining their health.
