The computing cloud is the inspiration for the new network model at Deutsche Telekom, according to Axel Clauberg, vice president of IP architecture and design. Dubbed "TeraStream Architecture," the network model envisions a simpler approach, reducing reliance on old technologies, such as asynchronous transfer mode and frame relay, while embracing newer tech, specifically IPv6. Clauberg sees using software-defined network technology in data centers and the access network, but not in the core network.
