The first step to reducing extra sugar in a child's diet is knowing where it comes from, such as soda and baked goods, but food labels may not always be a big help, writes registered dietitian Elizabeth Ward in this blog post. Public health groups have asked the FDA to require manufacturers to list added sugar content. In the meantime, parents can serve water or low-fat milk instead of soda, avoid processed or packaged foods, and choose low-sugar cereals and naturally sweetened products.
