The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has criticized the efforts of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as the agency develops rules governing the over-the-counter derivatives market. At a U.S. Chamber summit, CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler called out the Chamber for criticizing the agency's efforts while claiming to want improved market transparency. "We both say we want more transparency, openness and competition in [futures and swaps] markets," Gensler said. "Sometimes when you do express concerns, we're actually not that far apart."
