The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists has issued new guidelines on dyslipidemia and preventing atherogenesis that include a goal of attaining low-density lipoprotein levels of less than 70 mg/dL in high-risk patients, including those with coronary artery disease or patients with diabetes and another risk factor. The group recommends an LDL target of less than 100 mg/dL for patients with diabetes and those who show two or more risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
