Most mid-level bosses are primarily managers, but as they climb the ladder, they need to change their approach, says Patricia Koopersmith, chief operating officer of The Clearing management consultancy. Managers need to execute individual projects, but executive-level leaders must inspire workers to execute projects on their own terms. "You need to quickly make that mindset shift from doer to force multiplier," Koopersmith explains. "Everything needs to scale."
