Mars announced new products for the 2012 Halloween and Christmas seasons. They include Snickers Pumpkin Singles and M&M's white chocolate candy corn for Halloween, and Dove Peppermint Bark Singles for Christmas.
Mars will continue to invest in its US operations, announcing a $900 million US supply chain investment. The announcement follows a $1 billion domestic manufacturing investment and a $100 million facility upgrade in its Kansas facility, where M&M's Caramel candies are made.
Mars Chocolate North America will be shaking up some popular brands by featuring new flavors. Snickers hazelnut and Twix white chocolate cookie bars are among the offerings, while holiday-specific variants will include red, white and blue M&M's and new products to come for Halloween, Christmas and other special days. "Through extensive consumer research, we've created line extensions that will resonate with shoppers," said Timothy LeBel, Mars Chocolate North America's vice president of sales. "For example, confections containing hazelnuts have increased 14% in sales, so consumers will want to try our limited edition Snickers hazelnut."
Mars and Hershey are expected to benefit from strong Halloween sales this year, according to Euromonitor International research analyst Matthew Hudak. Increased willingness to indulge during the holiday season and a slate of new holiday-themed variations on existing products, such as Mars' White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M's and Cadbury's Screme Eggs, will drive sales this Halloween, Hudak predicted.
The name and image of Boyko Borisov, the prime minister of Bulgaria, are shown on the packaging of a new chocolate bar launched by a Bulgarian company owned by former international football referee Ichko Lozev. Borisov reportedly has given his approval to market the product.
