Meru Networks has broadened its WLAN suite to include virtual versions of its products, a move that reflects a trend among wireless-networking vendors that are moving toward eliminating hardware controllers and other dedicated appliances. Among other things, Meru said it will begin deploying a VMware-supported version of its System Director WLAN operating system as well as virtual editions of its three main mobility controllers and E(z)RF suite of applications.
