Sales of digital microelectromechanical system microphones will more than double this year to $226.1 million, thanks to wider adoption of those parts in smartphones, tablet computers and other consumer electronics, including the iPad 2 and the new iPad, according to IHS iSuppli. In 2013, those products will drive digital MEMS microphone sales to increase to $315.1 million, overtaking analog MEMS microphones, which will see $261 million in sales during 2013, the market research firm forecasts.
