Some designers are now using embedded fonts to add banners and logos to their sites without resorting to large image files, writes Peter North. New CSS features make embedding fonts easy, but it's important to also come up with a way for your site to "fail gracefully" if something goes wrong. "[A] font-​​dependent site can look very ugly and odd if those carefully-​​chosen fonts go missing," North warns.
