Pallet provider iGPS has foiled pallet thieves and saved money by embedding RFID technology on its plastic pallets. The company, whose pallets were often stolen and ground down for the plastic, installed battery-powered tags on each pallet that enable tracking over a cellular connection. The company is notified when a pallet goes off its assigned routes. The company's Al Farrell says the tags have helped iGPS recover lost pallets and have saved the company more money that it spent on the technology.
