As people open cabins for the spring, officials are issuing reminders that rodent feces can spread hantavirus, a respiratory disease that can be deadly in people. The virus can be aerosolized and inhaled by people when they sweep or vacuum areas that were closed for the winter. Last year, 53 rodents tested positive for hantavirus nationwide, and recently, eight mice tested positive in California.
