Participants who ate a custardlike dessert while being exposed to different scents took smaller bites as the scents grew stronger, suggesting that manipulating the aroma of food may lead to a 5% to 10% decrease in food intake per bite, according to a Dutch study in the journal Flavour. Researchers said controlling both food aroma and portion size may aid in weight loss.
