Clif Bar has introduced a Luna Carrot Cake variety and launched the Clif Builder's Max line of high-protein bars with casein, whey and soy. The Max bars, with 30 grams of protein and 390 calories, are sold in caramel peanut, chocolate chip cookie dough and mint chocolate chip flavors.
After years of coaching and training cocoa growers in India, Switzerland's Chocolat Stella is now using Indian-grown cocoa in its chocolate bars. Stella began working with farmers 15 years ago to improve the quality of their crops, giving them growing advice, low interest loans, and even sending some farmers to Switzerland for training. All that investment has paid off. "Today, among the 20 countries which supplies cocoa to Stella, Indian cocoa is on the top of the table," said Indian Organic Farmers Producer Company's P.J. Chackochan.
Pop Rocks is giving customers a chance to win a grand prize with its online Easter egg hunt. Beginning March 20, customers can comb the company's web site for four eggs each containing a letter. Entering the word it spells qualifies the customer for the grand prize drawing of an Easter basket full of Pop Rocks, and an iPod Touch.
Twice-a-day snacking is on the rise, as is impulse buying of snack food on the go. A new study by Technomic shows almost half of those surveyed snack twice a day, up from 25% just two years ago. In addition, 62% buy snacks while they're away from home, and 33% are searching for more nutritious snack choices.
Mars is preparing for a limited-edition release of its Galaxy Flutes in the U.K. The chocolate-covered wafer fingers are targeted to consumers who want a lighter on-the-go snack. Mars said that if the limited-edition release sells well the company would consider making Galaxy Flutes a permanent offering.
