USDA chief veterinarian John Clifford on Friday solicited comments on a proposed rule that would alter U.S. import guidelines used to assess a nation's bovine spongiform encephalopathy risk and make them compatible with those used by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). "The rule does bring us in line with science regarding this particular disease," Clifford said. "This rule will also assist us to reopen markets or open new markets, and bring us in line with OIE standards that we have asked other countries to comply with."
