Investment in land-based and offshore wind farms in North America from 2011 through 2017 will reach more than $145 billion, according to a report from Pike Research. Wind power installations in North America could reach 125 gigawatts by 2017, with land-based projects accounting for about 97% of the total, the group said. "The United States produces enough electricity from wind energy to power 10 million homes -- but there is still plenty of room to grow," said analyst Dexter Gauntlett.
