Freight carload traffic for U.S. railroads declined 6.4% during the week ending April 14 versus year-ago levels, but intermodal activity grew 1.6% in the same period, according to the Association of American Railroads. North American chemical shipments also climbed 5.3%. Of the 20 carload categories, 12 registered gains, AAR said.
