Alabama emergency room physician Monica Williams-Murphy says her experience of performing CPR on a 100-year-old patient with advanced dementia because she lacked a do-not-resuscitate order prompted her to co-author "It's OK to Die." The book includes a personal self-assessment scale that helps people spell out treatment preferences should they ever be incapacitated. "We need to shift the paradigm so people try to create a good death for themselves and the ones they love," she said.
