U.S. researchers tracked 1,807 U.S. cancer survivors for more than 18 years and found that nearly half of the 776 deaths were attributed to causes other than cancer. In the first five years of diagnosis, 32.8% of survivors died from another condition compared with 62.7% after 20 years. The findings, based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, were presented at an American Association of Cancer Research meeting.
