Merchant lawsuits that could cost credit card companies more than $6 billion and regulatory changes from the Consumer Financial Protection Agency are among the headwinds facing credit card companies this year. Still, companies such as MasterCard and Visa have continued to do well as more consumers shift from paper money to plastic.
