Enrollment in the state Department of Education's Connecticut Healthy Food and Beverages program -- and the funding that comes with it -- is contingent upon schools adopting policies that promote healthier foods. Officials in Milford recently agreed to join the program, which bans junk food from being sold in school cafeterias or through school-day fundraisers, in exchange for $63,000 for food services. School groups will be allowed to raise money by selling items, such as baked goods and candy, during exempt after-school events.
