A federal appeals court upheld a lower court's ruling that Pfizer is not shielded from some lawsuits over asbestos-containing products made by a defunct, bankrupt unit of the company. Judges found that Pennsylvania law allows Pfizer to face a lawsuit on the basis of manufacturer liability. Asbestos claims against the non-operating unit, Quigley, may add up to $4.45 billion in the next 42 years, according to testimony in bankruptcy court.
