Some students with learning disabilities choose not to take advantage of available supports and services when they go to college. Unlike in K-12 schools, it is a student's responsibility to seek any needed assistance. "Many have left the disability back in high school," said Thomas Crowe, director of the Office for Students with Disabilities at the College of Lake County in Illinois. "They don't want to use it as a crutch," he said. Many colleges are working to dispel students' concerns about seeking help and have programs and services designed to help students succeed.
