An overwhelming majority of North American enterprises say they plan to expand their data-center footprint in 2012, with more than three-quarters saying they will rely on third-party providers to host or create all or part of the new capacity, a report finds. According to a poll of 300 large enterprises conducted by Digital Realty Trust, the shift to outsourcing is being driven in part by a lack of adequate funding to support high-cost private expansion, as well as an increase in the number of qualified co-location firms providing different levels of customized services.
