No one outside of Samsung Electronics is quite sure how many smartphones the South Korean firm sold last quarter, because Samsung does not release those figures. Estimates from research firms not only vary considerably but describe units shipped, not sold. IHS iSuppli says Samsung shipped 32 million smartphones, while Strategy Analytics puts the number much higher at 44.5 million. Apple, by comparison, reported selling 35 million iPhones. Analysts do seem to agree, however, that Samsung sold the most cellphones in the quarter.
