A Missouri bill to restrict nurse specialists from providing some pain management services could increase costs, limit access, reduce choice and affect vulnerable patient populations, according to the Federal Trade Commission. The bill does not affect surgical, obstetric or post-operative pain control by nurse anesthetists or anesthesiologist assistants. But it would allow only physicians to use tools such as radiofrequency waves or the injection of drugs into the spinal column.
