Union Pacific and Gardendale Railroad are handling a rapidly rising amount of freight business spurred by the booming activity in the Eagle Ford Shale play in Texas. "We went from 1,600 feet of track to 80,000 feet of track, with another 35,000 likely to be built. That's both our track and our customers'," said Matt Cundiff, vice president of Ironhorse Resources, Gardendale Railroad's owner. "Today, we're looking at handling about 15,000 railcars annually, and we expect to go to 25,000 in a year's time."
