Shale gas could create 1 million new jobs in the manufacturing sector by 2025, a study says. Shale gas' "biggest immediate impact is on manufacturing," writes economist Jerry Jasinowski. "It is a critical ingredient in several core industries -- such as petrochemicals, steel, fertilizers, pulp and paper, petroleum refining, glass, plastic, and food processing." The 50-to-1 oil-to-gas price ratio is well beyond the 7-to-1 needed by the petrochemical industry for profitability, according to Kevin Swift of the American Chemistry Council.
