Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., said she has "little tolerance for people who tell me that they graduate with $200,000 of debt or even $80,000 of debt" from college, a comment that drew criticism from a Democratic colleague. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., said it's sad to see Republicans abandon a loan program named for one of their colleagues, Republican Sen. Robert Stafford of Vermont. Courtney said Congress has three months to act before loan rates go up and add to student-loan debts.
