The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency ordered the Bushmills Ethanol plant in Atwater, Minn., to pay an $800,000 penalty for allegedly releasing wastewater into a ditch and failing to report it. The fine is the third-biggest for an ethanol plant in the state during the past six years. "We don't have any other large enforcement actions going against ethanol plants," which means the industry "may have turned a corner," said Jeff Connell, manager of compliance and enforcement for the MPCA's industrial unit.
