Cybersecurity legislation making its way through Congress fails to adequately protect citizens from blanket invasions of their civil liberties by not placing sufficient limits on the sharing of consumer information by private companies, privacy advocates say. According to the Center for Democracy and Technology and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, information-sharing bills such as the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act and the Secure IT Act lack proper privacy oversight and in most cases don't adequately outline what constitutes a cybersecurity threat.
