Massachusetts Democratic Reps. John Tierney and Ed Markey are seeking a public-hearing venue closer to the location of the nuclear facility in Seabrook, N.H., when Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials visit the state. The lawmakers said holding a hearing only at NRC headquarters in Maryland "severely limits the ability of those who live and work near the facility to fully understand the nature of this safety- and aging-related problem." Tierney and Markey, citing the plant's concrete deterioration problems, are opposed to the planned 20-year license extension that Seabrook is seeking.
