Research has found that solar capacity in the U.S. has grown by triple digits since 2010, thanks to the deployment of more than 62,000 photovoltaic systems last year -- largely by municipal utilities and rural electric cooperatives. According to the Solar Electric Power Association, solar growth has been especially robust in the eastern U.S., which is home to four of the 10 most active utilities for solar, including New Jersey's Public Service Electric & Gas Co.
