A study in Arthritis Care & Research revealed that rheumatoid arthritis patients who discontinued statin treatment were more likely to die than those who did not stop taking the drugs. Researchers said the odds ratio of dying from heart disease was 1.60, while the risk of all-cause mortality was 1.79 in patients with RA. "Findings provide support for the importance of compliance with therapy in rheumatoid arthritis patients who are prescribed statins," the researchers wrote.
